Copycat Big Mac

Copycat Big Mac

We created this copycat big mac as a slightly healthier version than the original and it has a fresher taste as it is less processed.  It is probably no surprise but works well served with french fries.

Ingredients

  • ¾ lb Ground Beef
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2-4 Sesame Buns
  • 4 slices American Cheese
  • 2 Romaine Lettuce Leaves
  • ¼ White Onion
  • 4-8 Dill Pickle Chips
  • ¼ c Thousand Island Dressing see notes on making your own dressing

Instructions

  • Mince the onion, add to a bowl and cover with cold water. Let them sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Drain the water when ready to add to the burger.
  • Add salt and pepper to the ground beef and mix to combine. Create 4 thin hamburger patties. They will look large but will shrink down when cooked. Set aside.
  • Slice the buns lengthwise into thirds. If you have pre-sliced buns you can use the bottom part from another bun to create your middle layer.
  • Julienne the lettuce and set aside.
  • Cook the burgers over a medium heat until cooked through.
  • Assemble – starting from the bottom and work your way up –
Bottom bun, slice of cheese, one burger patty, lettuce and onion, few scoops of 1000 island, middle bun, slice of cheese, one burger patty, 2-4 pickle chips, few scoops of 1000 island, top bun.

Notes

  • Prepping the onion allows the flavor to mellow, if you find it too oniony tasting allow to set in water longer.
  • Slicing the buns yourself works best, using the additional bun method works it is just more bread.
  • Kick it up a notch and make your own Thousand Island Dressing. (Your cook and prep time will vary depending on if this is already made or not)
