These cookies were born out of an invite to a cookie exchange party. After looking at many different recipes for ginger cookies, we decided to create our own version. These bourbon ginger molasses cookies are soft with just the right amount of ginger kick and a hint of orange.
Bourbon Ginger Molasses Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 ¾ c Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 2 tsp Ground Ginger
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- ¼ tsp Ground Cloves
- ¼ tsp Nutmeg
- ¼ tsp All Spice
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 1 pinch Pepper
- ¾ c Unsalted Butter
- 1 c Brown Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- ⅓ c Molasses
- ¼ tsp Orange Zest
- 1 ½ tbsp Bourbon
- ⅓ c Sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking soda, and spices.
- In a mixer cream the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg, vanilla, molasses, orange zest, and bourbon and continue mixing until combined.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the mixer about a ¼ at a time until incorporated.
- Cover the dough and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Add the sugar to a small plate or bowl.
- Take about 1-2 tablespoons of the dough, roll into a ball, then roll in the sugar to coat. Continue to create the sugar coated dough balls and place on a cookie sheet about 2 in apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cookies cool for a few minutes before moving to a cooling rack.
Notes
- The formed sugar coated balls can be frozen, when ready to eat they can be baked from frozen, just increase the cook time to 13-15 minutes.
