There is nothing better than homemade vanilla ice cream. This recipe uses just the basic ingredients, but you can add more to create other flavors besides vanilla. While having an ice cream maker/churn makes this process easier, there are other ways you can make ice cream. The most basic is with zip-loc bags, ice, salt, and a lot of shaking (a fun science experiment done in many schools).
Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 3 Eggs
- 1 ¾ c Sugar
- 2 c Heavy Cream
- 1 c Half & Half
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- ¼ tsp Salt
Instructions
- Mix the eggs and sugar together until smooth.
- Add remaining ingredients and continue mixing until combined.
- Add to a cold ice cream maker and churn until you get a good creamy ice cream.
- Move to a storage container and place in freezer overnight.
Notes
- Having an ice cream maker of some sort makes this process a lot easier. We use the attachment for the Kitchen-Aid mixer, which works well for us.
- This works as a great base for ice cream, you can add other flavors or mix-ins to change it up.
- You can eat the ice cream right away, but we find putting it in the freezer overnight helps firm it up a little more.
