Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

This is a quick and simple chocolate buttercream frosting.  It is extremely versatile and can be used on cakes, cupcakes, or any type of dessert.

Chocolate Buttercream

Ingredients

  • 1 c Butter softened
  • Salt
  • 3 c Powdered Sugar
  • ½ c Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • ¼ c Heavy Whipping Cream

Instructions

  • Add the butter and a pinch of salt to the bowl of a stand mixer and beat until smooth.
  • Add the powdered sugar about 1/2 cup at a time until mixed on low until combined.
  • Add cocoa powder and mix on low to combine.
  • Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream.
  • Continue mixing until the frosting is light and fluffy.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of powdered sugar based on how sweet you want the frosting.
  • If the frosting is too think add more cream, if it is too thin add more powdered sugar.
  • This should be enough to frost a two layer cake or 4 dozen cup cakes.
